An Interactive Example

Here's what one page of a simple flipchart looks like. The page can be setup for use with activotes or activexpressions (or any personal response system device) that sends radio signals to the board and so each student can easily and/or anonymously. With these deviced every student participates - not just those who tend to raise their hand first. Students who do respond often and eagerly are joined by the rest of their classmates. That can be a good feeling. Discussions are richer and fuller. Another way lessons become student-centered is the way the iwb lesson lends itself to student participation and leadership at the board. Another bonus: the end result can be printed and handed out to students who may have missed the class.

Hi Barbara,
Creating a blog for the Activboard is a great idea - you'll have to get all of Concord involved!

I am amazed how quickly teachers are adopting the use of activotes and activexpressions for formative assessment.

Students can instantly "see", on an anonymous bar graph, where they stand in relation to others. Those who have answered the question correctly can explain their thinking to the whole class, or the teacher an instantly re-teach the concept to clear up misunderstandings.

Thanks, Suzanne.
This is my second year using these personal response systems and it has been an "aha" year for me. I am finding I can learn so much about what my students know through discussions that give the whole group instant feedback options. I believe the group formative assessment discussions closely tie into the 21st Century tools around collaboration and anaylisis. #ild #iwb
